Interview: “Climate change is no longer a future issue in Iraq”

Salam Omer, journalist and senior adviser of our partner KirkukNow, speaks with Jasmin Arémi from Mena-Watch about the political and social situation in Iraq. The discussion focuses on the political crisis, the consequences of displacement, and the growing impacts of climate change.

Omer considers the widespread view of Iraq as merely a battleground between the U.S. and Iran to be too simplistic. This is because, in addition to state actors, militias and other non-state groups also have a significant influence on the country’s development. The multitude of actors makes Iraq a particularly complex conflict in the region.
